Tswainge Crater Museum in South Africa Honors Eugene Shoemaker
Compared to the Barringer Meteor Crater due to it well preserved condition and size, this crater has a small, hyper saline lake which over the centuries was mined for salt. The on-site museum features a plaque dedicated to Eugene Shoemaker who was the first to prove the Meteoric origin of Barringer Meteor Crater in 1963, and was awarded the Barringer Medal in 1984.
