New Meteor Crater Discovered in Australia while Drilling for Gold

Believed to be more than 100 million years old, this large 5km crater in Australia will certainly attract new study! Already they estimate to create this impact crater, it would have taken an asteroid of 100-200 meters in size.

Not visible from the surface or satellite, but gravity abnomaly imaging has revealed the telltale ring pattern seen in the photo. Study of this, and all meteorite craters on earth, will help scientists better understand and predict the frequency of meteorite and asteroid hits.
