Another Extinction Event: Eltanin Impact Triggered the Ice Age
The 4 kilometer sized asteroid which struck earth 2.51 million years ago is directly associated with the formation of northern hemisphere ice caps, sudden climate change and extinction rates at the end of the Pilocene epoch. Much of the research is based in studies of sediments and evidence of the tsunamis associated with the impact. This GeologyHub video discusses the impact’s effects around the planet.
